Colca Canyon Tour is scenic tour that combining the highlights of our volcanic mountain range; the deepest canyon of the world and the scenic trip in the region of Arequipa – Peru. The Colca Canyon Tour takes us from Arequipa city; of the Misti volcano foothills to the wild and rugged terrain of Colca.
Highlights of Colca Canyon Tour include the magnificent views Patapampa at 4,600; the highest pint of the tour, plus our magnificent views point from the “cruz del condor”, where we view the stunning Colca canyon and the deepest zone. Traversing above the well paved route, we pass through villages seldom seen by foreign visitors, and drive along lovely forested route as we descend to the bustling village of Chivay at the beginning of the Colca canyon.
The canyon of Colca is located south east of Peru, 150 kilometers from the City of Arequipa, where the integration between natural landscapes and a culture developed in harmony with the Andean environment, make this area of Peru one of the places you stay alive sharing their ancestral traditions. The Colca Canyon Tour is our most popular itineraries in the region of Arequipa Peru.
We will pick you up at your hotel very early to depart from Arequipa towards the city of Chivay, a 3-hour road trip. The Full Day Colca Canyon tour really begins upon arrival to Yanque, where we will eat breakfast. Once we have replenished our energy after the long trip and waking up early, from here we will continue on our way until reaching the Cruz del Cóndor (Cross of the Condor), a nesting site for condors with a wingspan of up to 3 meters (almost 10 feet). We will be able to tour the lookout point and observe them in flight. Then, we will continue on in our vehicle to Choquetico, Maca, and Antahuilque, a lookout point where we will be able to behold the Colca Valley in all of its splendor, as well as the pre-Inca terraces that are still used today for planting grains and other crops.
The next stop will be the thermal springs of Chacapi and relax for an hour. Next, we will go back to Chivay, where we will have lunch in a touristic restaurant. After this, we will take our vehicle to start the trip back to Arequipa, but not without first making a few stops at the Volcano Lookout Point located at an altitude of 4,800 meters (15,748 feet), where you can enjoy a superb view of the region’s surrounding volcanoes. We will also make a stop at the Cañahuas Pampa National Reserve, a wetland where vicuñas and alpacas can be spotted. Afterwards, we will not make any more stops until reaching downtown Arequipa to end our tour.
Here are some other options that will suit your needs
This was a great trip and I’m glad the tour guides picked me up on time from my Airbnb as punctuality is not very common in Latin America. Pros: -Hotel pickup/dropoff -Many sites to see before and after viewing colca canyon -Although there was a lot we saw in this day tour I never felt rushed. -Guides were knowledgeable Cons: -I understand Spanish, but if you don’t you’re not getting all the history and information as they summarize it when speaking in English. -We started off in a big coach bus, but then switched to a small bus which sucked as we were packed inside. -Great tour, but after visiting the cañon you will be very tired even though you have like 6 more hours left before you get home. All in all, it was a long day trip, but I enjoyed it and I would recommend it to others. I just wished they would include an express option where we could drive straight to the canyon and back while avoiding all the touristy stops along the way – I would pay for that.
