The tour of the Upis Lake and the 7 lagoons of Ausangate is one of the most complete circuits because you will see 9 colorful lagoons, located at the base of the imposing Ausangate, also considered by the Andean people one of the highest and most important mountains in the Cusco region.
We will ride on horseback and have the best views and live a different experience where you will see herds of alpacas, vicuñas, llamas, chinchillas, and Andean birds in a dream landscape where you will be connected with nature.
The Tour of the 7 Lakes is one of the most beautiful routes in all of the Vilcanota Mountain Range; you’ll stand before the imposing Ausangate, one of the 5 highest snowcaps in Peru. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with the purest of nature and gaze upon a gorgeous place in the Andes of Cusco surrounding these multi-colored lakes.
On top of that, you’ll take a dip in the hot springs of Pacchanta to relax before enjoying a traditional lunch prepared by a local family who will cordially receive us in their home. This is a one-day excursion, within which you’ll discover indigenous communities who still keep their cultures and traditions alive today. Are you ready to live this experience?
This incredible, one-day adventure will start early, leaving Cusco in private transportation toward the community of Pacchanta. There, we’ll be received by a local family who will offer a nutritious, traditional Andean breakfast so that we can start our journey to the 7 Lakes through the Andes Mountain Range. On the way, we’ll enjoy incredible vistas of immense glaciers, including the imposing Ausangate at 6,384 meters (20,945 feet) above sea level.
We’ll start with an uphill hike to the first lake of the circuit known as Comercocha, a name originating from the Quechua language which means “green lake.” Continuing the journey, we’ll pass by other lakes: Patacocha, Azulcocha and China Otorongo, among others. After this hike of about 15 km, we’ll return to the community of Pacchanta to have lunch. If the body asks for it, we’ll take a relaxing swim in the hot springs there before returning to Cusco, finishing off this incomparable experience
Our adventure begins with the pick up from your hotel, then we will travel in our private car for 3 hours to the viewpoint of Upis, where we will have breakfast and then begin the adventure on horseback to Upis Lake for 1 hour, here we will have free time to appreciate the lake and take amazing pictures.

Then we will ride a flat trail for 2 hours to the town of Pacchanta during the ride you will have views of herds of Alpacas y Llamas grazing freely throughout the landscape, you will also have views of rivers and green valleys.
Arriving at the village of Pacchanta you will have plenty of time to take a relaxing bath in the hot springs.
Then we will have lunch and then board our car back to Cusco for 3 hours, our guide will drop you off at the door of your hotel.

Drop us a line, and we will get back to you asap!
All information meetings are held in your hotel at 6:00 p.m., one night before the tour begins. If you cannot attend, you must coordinate another time at the (Peru Hike) offices. These meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and there you will be given a small duffel bag, in which you’ll put all the belongings you intend to bring on the trek that won’t be in your day pack.
The trek has to be paid for in full by at least 7.30 pm two days before departure. For example, if your tour departs on a Wednesday, then you must come to our office before 7.30 pm on Monday.
It would be much appreciated if you pay the trek balance in cash US dollars or local currency. You can withdraw some money from several ATMs along Avenida Sol (either in US dollars or local Peruvian Soles). You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay an 8% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance by traveler’s checks.
Of course! During the travel, your main luggage can be stored at our office(you can organize briefing day or by email) or at your hotel, both free of charge.
Any equipment that you are not going to need on the trek can be stored safely in your hotel. Nearly every hotel will provide this service. Don’t leave items of value with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and obtain an itemized receipt (In the unlikely case of theft many insurance companies require that you have a copy of the receipt itemizing all the items). Best put items such as credit cards inside a sealed, signed envelope for extra peace of mind.
Peru Hike Company can pick you up from your hotel, as long as it’s in the Historic Center of Cusco. The pickup time will be coordinated with your guide in the briefing. The pickup time may vary between 30 and 45 minutes due to traffic. Cusco is a very old city, therefore, it has many narrow cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs may be located on streets without access to cars or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to transport luggage. We strongly recommend that you book accommodation with good access.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also accept that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, each person can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wishes to modify the tour; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if said modifications can be made.
Strikes and demonstrations are usually frequent in Peru and this may interrupt some of our tours. Roads can be blocked and train tracks can be taken over. However, we will try to keep your excursion as planned, even if it means leaving the night before the scheduled date. Under these circumstances, tours may also be cancelled. In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our highest priority and our decisions will be made to protect it.
You’re responsible for your objects during the tour. Please pay attention to where you leave your things and remember to take everything once you leave our trucks, tents, or restaurants.

This was a terrific way to wrap up our week in Cusco. Richard tells great stories about the area, and answers questions with patience and more in depth information. His horses are clearly well-loved and cared for, and know their jobs extremely well! There is a lot of climbing up and down hills, and some tight spaces in the caverns, but it never felt overly strenuous. I really recommend this tour to the 7 lakes of Ausangate with Richard Guia 🙂
I had the fortune of being the one traveler to book this excursion and spent the day with Richard on a tour of the 7 lakes. He is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent host.
The tour started early morning with a beautiful drive from Cusco and a sunrise over the mountains. We arrived, had a delicious homemade breakfast (omelette, papaya, coffee, tea, and more)
The horseback ride to the lakes was unforgettable. Santiago from the community guided my horse while Richard provided an excellent history of the location and traditions in the mountains. I am so grateful to have spent the day with him, and we took some rad photos along the way. We had a gorgeous ride back followed by a dip in the hot spring which was the perfect follow up to a cold but lovely journey.
Just as we finished up in the hot tub, another delicious meal of hot Quinoa soup was ready to go followed by chicken, rice, and delicious sauce.
I can’t recommend this excursion enough. Thank you Richard and co. I will not forget what an amazing experience I had!!
I go on a lot of horseback riding tours when I travel and this was one of my favourites. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the history of the 7 Lakes Of Ausangate very clearly. My horse was lovely and we got to trot and even canter a bit. Highly recommend this tour.
Really great tour in ausangate 7 lagoons. Excellent communication and punctual pick up. No faffing, safety instructions and then straight on the horses. Cecilio was a great guide, very relaxing pace with some nice stops along the way. Horses were great! This tour is a credit to Cusco and Peru, thanks!
The horseback ride to the 7 lakes of Ausangate was incredible, from the moment we were picked up in a spacious minibus and the explanation about our tour that day was very detailed, Richard is really a very informative guide who is very attentive to every detail.
When we arrived at our departure point, the horses and the staff were punctual and very kind, as well as the cook who was kind and prepared a very delicious meal, this horseback tour to Ausangate was really incredible, we were surprised by all the views of lakes and snowy mountains and seeing many alpacas. I really recommend this tour 10/10 to Richard and the PERU HIKE company.
